Do You Own This Game Or App Digital Download

First you should check to make sure you are connected to Xbox Live and signed into the profile on the Xbox that has the Game Pass attached to it, as only the profile with the Game Pass attached is able to play Game Pass games, same goes for Free Games With Gold games.

If the issue persists, try hard resetting your Xbox (if you do not know how to hard reset your Xbox, follow this link https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console and follow instructions on how to power cycle your Xbox).

And if the issue still persists after this, there is a chance that it is a temporary issue with the service itself and will be resolved within a few days.

Here is the link to the official Xbox Support page on the error: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/errors/error-code-0x803F8001

I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I'm indeed connected to Xbox Live and signed into the correct profile. I have no problem running Game Pass games for example.

I have tried hard resetting as you suggested but it didn't seem to resolve the issue.

Is there anything else that can be done or someone to contact?

Thanks

Hi LuminaryFL,

That's a very odd situation to say the least. I've confirmed that backwards compatible games claimed through Games with Gold do not appear in your order history, so that is normal. I'm also in the process of downloading the game to see if I can reproduce the issue. Before contacting Xbox Support, I'd recommend some basic troubleshooting which customer support would have you do anyway.

First, w hile the Xbox is on, go ahead and do a hard restart and power cycle to the console. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds or until it shuts down and then remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 5 minutes. Then re-connect and wait 60 seconds before turning on the Xbox. Holding down the power button on the console to force a shutdown is an important step.

If that doesn't help then you will need to try out a soft factory reset.

  1. Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide.
  2. Scroll to the right and selectSystem > Settings > System > Console info.
  3. SelectReset console.

Make sure to select "Keep my games & apps" and have the correct account login information plus your Wi-Fi password ready if you connect wireless because you will need to re-add the account's that were on the Xbox and re-connect to your network during the reset.

Give that a try and let us know how it goes!

Best Wishes,
Diego

I would also check to be sure you're designated as the home Xbox account on the console.

Hi Diego,

I have tried soft resetting as suggested - the problem persists :(.

Following other suggestions - I also made sure that my console is designated as home Xbox, and I guess the soft reset also answers the removal and readding of account. Remains the same as before.

Thanks for all the responses, Luminary

Hi LuminaryFL,

Thanks for the response. I'm sorry to hear the issue still persists. Just to confirm, was the game able to successfully install the first time? If so, I would recommend uninstalling the game and trying to install it again.

There may be an issue with how the license is applied to your account since something is blocking the detection on the console that your account doesn't have the license. I'll try to get more information to see if others are having a similar issue.

Let us know if you are able to re-install the game.

Best Wishes,
Diego

Hi and thanks again,

I'm able to re-install the game, but alas the problem persists. The game was successfully installed also on the 1st time (but with the same problem). Basically what happens when I install is that I press on the game from Games With Gold which directs me to the Windows store, then my only option there is to "See Price", so I click on it and then it says something about it being backward compatible and I have an option to press Continue or Cancel (it also writes Free somewhere iirc), I press Continue and then it takes a somewhat long time (about 1 minute, maybe a bit less, is that normal?) and then it reads Thanks for the purchase (something like that). Then it downloads the game and when I try to run it the initial problem in OP is there. The first time it also requested a payment method (if that matters) even though it is tagged as Free, which I did fill up as needed. Any other suggestions?
